2025 Monthly Dahlia Class

Monthly class starting in May of 2025 on how to grow the most luscious, happy dahlia flowers. Each month will focus on a subject needed to know that month. Take one or take them all depending on your strengths and what you might need to problem solve. Handouts, lists of supplies and local sources will be supplied. 

Rough Outline:

May: Planting! We typically plant May 15th (Mother's Day) and before hand we prep/ready dahlia tubers. (most dahlia sales start in January to March and ship when it's not freezing) Field planting as well as planting in pots. Irrigation. 

June: Staking/fertilizing/weeding/watering

July: Blooms? Blooms usually start mid-end July on the early side. We will discuss disbudding and see what "normal" plants look like. Stripping bottom leaves/identifying pests/diseases

August: Definitely blooms, harvest, vase life, more staking. Double check labeling as things bloom. 

September: Enjoy! Harvest for longest bloom life, variety selection/culling.

October: Prep for end of season/frost, digging, dividing/labeling/storing.
